Wedding in Rock garden Chandigarh

The Chandigarh administration has imposed a ban on all wedding events at the Rock Garden.

Earlier, wedding occasions were permitted at the third phase of the garden. The decision has been taken in view of the wedding functions creating a mess at the Rock Garden and also posing a threat to the heritage. However, the decision will be not applicable for those who have already booked the venue for a wedding.

Even tourists face problems because of the weddings as the area would remain closed for them during such occasions.

The administration received complaints that garbage, especially green waste, was not being cleaned after a wedding function and would give a bad look to the garden.

The booking cost for a wedding at the Rock Garden is Rs 70,000, out of which Rs 10,000 is refundable.

This decision, however, may impact the revenue collection of the Rock Garden Society as there are several bookings ahead of the wedding season.

Ban On Private Coaching From 8 AM to 3 PM, Starting July 1

In the latest move against coaching centres that act as a deterrent for children going to school, UT deputy commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi has issued directions that no private coaching centre in the city would remain open from 8 am to 3 pm. The notification released by the administration also said that teachers of several government and private schools are involved in the coaching business. The order would come into force from July 1 to August 29.

“These coaching centres are involved in the business of giving tuition to schoolchildren and their tuition timings clash with the school time, which act as a deterrent for children going to school,” said Joshi.

Following these inputs, the UT Deputy Commissioner, by exercising the powers vested under Section 144 of CrPC, directed that all the private coaching centres within the jurisdiction of Chandigarh shall not render coaching to school going children from the specified timing in public interest for a period of 60 days. Those students who have already appeared in final exams or passed out from schools are exempted.

While it is evident that the decision will prevent children from attending classes at private coaching centres but it would be hard for the administration to keep tabs on private coaching centres. In the past, too, similar orders were issued but the management failed to keep a check on malpractices.

Parking Space Now Mandatory In Chandigarh Kanal Houses

Not leaving enough space for parking your car in your new home may shatter your dream of big home in Chandigarh. The Chandigarh administration has stopped approving revised building plans of houses not having the required parking space. This is in wake of rising shortage of parking spaces in residential areas.

Interestingly, Chandigarh has the highest density of vehicles in the county, with around 12 lakh registered vehicles, both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. This means every household in Chandigarh owns two vehicles at least.

According to building regulations of Chandigarh, for every 100 square metre, the owner has to leave parking space for one car. That means, for a 1 kanal plot, there is a need of parking space for six cars. (1 kannal = 5400 sq ft)

Residents have been crying foul and call the move impractical. The advisory committee has stopped approving the building maps in which the parking space has not been marked. As per the planning of kanal houses, there are four components -front courtyard, rear courtyard, main building, annexe with driveway up to main entry gate.

Parking-in-chandigarh

According to the architects, displacement of annexe portion and converting the green area of the rear courtyard into car parking is one solution, however, it will defeat the concept of green area in kanal houses. Another solution is to have stilt parking on the ground floor but it is possible only if the administration allows additional floor and increase in height of the building.

Due to the shortage of space, residents have encroached upon government land by raising the temporary roof in front courtyard for parking vehicles. Moreover, residents park their vehicles on both sides of internal roads of sectors, leading to chaos.
