Chandigarh has some breathtaking nature spots which one must definitely visit. Though it’s a small city but it is a place for all kind of people. Keeping in mind the nature lovers, here are some places in the city or nearby where one could spend time close to nature.
It’s a beautiful artificial water body in the foothills of picturesque Shivalik hills. The reservoir has a seasonal stream coming down from Shivalik hills. Everyone is drawn to its mesmerizing beauty. It is the best place for nature lovers specially the backside of lake as it has a very calm and composed atmosphere. The gathering is also comparatively less there. Garden of silence is a nice place for meditation. There are few species of fishes in the lake but fishing is prohibited here. Siberian duck, stork and crane are few migratory birds that come here for delight. People of all age groups could be seen boating, walking, relaxing or meditating here. In a nutshell, it’s a spell bound place for all.
Lake, Sector 42
A natural spot for residents of South city. Though this artificial lake is nothing in comparison to Sukhna Lake but it has got its own beauty. It’s very popular among the local residents and they come here usually for their morning and evening walk. The outline of the lake is done by stone masonry which makes it look more graceful. It’s a nice spot for couples to spend their time together with seclusion in the arms of nature.
Zakir Hussain Rose Garden
It is a beautiful garden in sector 16 which has a collection of around 1600 different species of roses and having 50,000 rose bushes. It even has some trees of medicinal value such as Bel, Bhera, camphor etc. It is the venue for hosting Rose Festival annually. The festival has various contests like photography, art, flower arrangements etc. Residents and tourists come here for picnic, walk or just to sit idle in the shade for tree near fountain.
Chappar Chiri, Sector 91, SAS Nagar
It is Baba Banda Singh Bahadur War Memorial in SAS Nagar which was inaugurated in 2011 and remarks the glorious victory of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur over the Mughal forces. The memorial has a 328 tall minar called Fateh Burj (Victory Tower). It has a lush green ambiance and even has a water body which adds up to graceful view of the memorial. There are statues of the famous personalities who won that battle and the office of this memorial even has a photo gallery of war times. The greenery, pond and the calmness of the place gives a soothing experience to the visitors.
It’s a picturesque waterfall at the foothills of shivaliks and is near Panchkula. There are few small hills around the waterfall and the cool breeze flowing makes it even a wonderful experience. Youngsters come here to picnic and enjoy cold water. There are no shops near Burj Kotian so everyone get their eatables along with them.
It’s near Panchkula and is well known for its lakes, flora and Himalayan views. It is famed for its trekking locations. There is a Morni Hill Fort in this village having modest stone masonary. The hill divides into two lakes Tikkar Tal and Chota Tikkar Tal which are mysteriously interconnected and has a hill rock in between. There is also an open restaurant under a canopy so that the visitors could have food while being in touch with the breathtaking nature.
It is a popular village on the outskirts of Chandigarh-Shimla Highway where people come to hang out with their friends and have picnic. A bike ride to the village will help you to enjoy the natural beauty and landscapes around. A river bed flows from there and the mountains around makes the atmosphere peaceful and stunning. You can sit on the rocks which are naturally placed in the water bed and enjoy the weather and breeze around.
A drive through the gorgeous Himalayas taking in all the attractive views of the nature is a mesmerizing experience. Timber Trail is few kilometers away from the city. One can to pass slowly from one mountain to another at timber trail through a ride in a cable car at 5000 ft height. There is a 3 star hotel as you reach the other side and there is even a resort where one could spend his quality time with his partner or family. A bike ride to timber trail makes it even a more wonderful experience.
A natural spot located few kilometers away from the city on Ambala-Shimla highway is well known for its gorgeous architecture and greenery. It has Sheesh Mahal, Rang Mahal and Jal Mahal from ancient Aryan times. There are pretty looking fountains in the garden and a wide variety of trees and flowers. A few movies were also recorded here. A zoo and a museum are also here and two famous annual festivals take place on this venue i.e. Spring Festival and Mango Festival. One can visit the garden during evening. The lighting of the garden makes it more attractive.
Garden of Fragrance
It is one of the prominent gardens of the city and very famous among the residents. It has a huge variety of pleasant scented flowers that is why it was given the name of fragrance. The garden is designed in beautiful pathways which add up to its prettiness. A lot many visitors come here daily to relax, walk and meditate. The stunning trees and flowers make the garden look very attractive and people of all age groups love to spend time here.
